*GPLC recruits volunteer tutors in Allegheny county year-round. Trainings are given a few times a month in order to certify tutors, and prepare them for their first and future meetings with local adult students.

Randy, GPLC Volunteer tutor
Volunteer tutor Randy explains how he views the importance of literacy programs: "It's probably much easier to learn in a more structured setting than to do it own your own. I know that my wife, who's Dutch...trying to learn the Dutch language without any kind of structure has been difficult, so I can probably identify with what these folks are going through." (Episode 1, TV411 L.C.).

Sarah, GPLC volunteer tutor
"I heard about (the tutor training program on local radio station) WYEP, 91.3 FM, on the radio," says volunteer tutor Sarah. "Reading is just such a fundamental part of life, and for me, until I was in this class, I didn't realize what a large part it was, how much we take it for granted." (Episode 1, TV411 L.C.)
